The minimum wage varies by state and skill level (ranging from INR 8,000-20,000/month depending on the state). The probation period is typically 3-6 months, as stipulated in the employment contract. Notice periods range from 1-3 months depending on the contract and seniority. The standard work week is 48 hours under the Factories Act (proposed 12-hour shifts with 4-day weeks under new codes). Employees are entitled to 15 days of earned leave per year.
The average salary in India is approximately INR 45,000/month (USD 540), with significant variation by sector and city. The highest-paying sectors are IT & Technology (average INR 90,000), Finance & Consulting (INR 75,000) and Pharmaceuticals (INR 60,000). Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi-NCR offer the highest salaries, with IT professionals in senior roles earning INR 2-5 lakhs/month.
